The main challenges of this project were:
- Safely migrating the existing content from the old website to the new one.
- Retaining the SEO benefits that the old website had gained.
- Ensuring that the new website would fully support and complement Tristan’s content.
In order to safely migrate the existing content from the original Natural Navigator site to the new custom site, we had to pay close attention to webmaster guidelines. By following the guidance on how to move a site with URL changes, the transition between the two was seamless to The Natural Navigator’s users, and Google still understood that the new pages should get the same quality signals as the previous pages.
Getting this migration process wrong, which is generally a result of not following webmaster guidelines, can lead to the dreaded 404 (File Not Found) errors cropping up, which not only harm the user experience but can negatively impact a site’s performance in Google search results.
As we’ve mentioned, Tristan is a master content creator. People follow his blogs, book launches and events with great interest, so it’s essential that his website is accessible to all users, regardless of whether they choose to view the content on a desktop, tablet or smartphone.
