Our new web apps are being developed to run without servers. They are powered by micro-service cloud computing, so there’s no persistent infrastructure or software required and we don’t use a fixed or virtual server resource.
How do serverless web apps work?
Our serverless web apps are powered by micro services in the cloud. These services each run small sections of code in order to complete a task. The code comprises of a set of instructions on how the micro services should interact with each other to complete the task so it requires no operating system or server environment to run.
With the application broken down into many small functions, it enables us to run them concurrently at a huge scale. The other great benefit is that the mico service is managed by the provider, meaning that we don’t need to worry about whether they’re online, up-to-date or have enough power to cope with the load, as they take care of all this for us.
There are a couple of extremely useful benefits to this: first, you pay only when the micro service is running, in millionths of a second. Secondly, all the resources are managed for you, so you’ve no need to worry about that side of things. Whether there are two, or two million, users all at the same time, the service only gets faster!
For many businesses, two of the main challenges when it comes to developing and launching an app are the running costs and ensuring that the app works properly. Using a serverless architecture means that you can spend more time developing and marketing your app, without any need to watch servers and worry that there may be too many users!
